HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/15/11) –
Senior captain Brian Day became the 49th Colgate skater to reach 100 points, but Rensselear scored on a penalty shot in overtime to hand the Raiders a 2-1 loss on Saturday night at Starr Rink.

Colgate (3-18-1, 0-9-1 ECAC) got a goal from Francois Brisebois with the assists to Day and Robbie Bourdon. Rookie Eric Mihalik was put in net for the second-straight night and made 18 saves.

The Engineers (13-6-3, 5-5-0 ECAC) saw Joel Malchuk and Chase Polacek net goals with assists to Mike Bergin and Jeff Foss. Allen York came up big in net, including overtime, with 29 saves and six in the extra frame.

The Engineers struck first, midway through the first period as Malchuk put his team up 1-0. Bergin fired a shot wide of the net that got a great bounce off the boards and Malchuk was sitting at the post and beat Mihalik to that post for the lead. Jeff Foss was also given an assist on the play. Rensselaer won the shot advantage after with nine shots to Colgate's six. The Raiders had three chances on the power play and managed two shots.

Brisebois knotted the game at 1-1 with 5:36 remaining in the second period. Day circled from the right face off dot to the top of the slot and put a shot on net. The puck was blocked out front, but Brisebois collected the rebound and beat a diving York for his seventh goal of the season and his 70th career point. Bourdon was given an assist on the goal after he tipped the puck in front.

Colgate reached double-digits in shots with 10, while RPI had five. Each team went 0-for-2 on the power play in the period.

The teams played pretty evenly in the third period with the Engineers coming away with an 8-5 shot advantage, but it seemed both teams were playing to not make a mistake.

The intensity picked up in the overtime period and Colgate had a huge advantage after RPI's C.J. Lee crushed Brisebois into the side boards and was given a five-minute major and a game disqualification. So the Raiders had a great opportunity with a power play chance for the entire extra period. They managed a few shots on net that York stopped, but got burnt with 1:35 remaining. Polacek received a breakout pass and was all alone with Mihalik on a shorthanded chance. He was hooked down from behind and was granted a penalty shot. The team's leader scorer made a couple of moves and chipped the puck over Mihalik outstretched right pad for the 2-1 win.

Colgate held Rensselaer to just 20 shots on the night, while firing 30 on York. The teams combined to go 0-for-12 on the power play with Colgate missing eight chances.
