BETHLEHEM, PA. (2/18/09) – Marquis Hall scored a game-high 16 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead Lehigh to a 49-40 Patriot League win over Colgate Wednesday night at Stabler Arena.
Colgate (9-16, PL 5-7) losses for the sixth straight time at Stabler Arena and falls into fifth place in the Patriot League standings, one-half game behind Lehigh (15-10, PL 5-6).
Hall added three assists and four steals for the Mountain Hawks, while Zahir Carrington tallied nine points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Mike Venezia (Westfield, NJ) led Colgate with 13 points, while Yaw Gyawu (Lilburn, GA) contributed 10 points and four rebounds.
Colgate was ice-cold from the field, shooting only 26.5 percent, while Lehigh managed 36.7 percent. The Mountain Hawks held a 42-37 advantage on the boards. Freshman Nick Pascale (Dewitt, NY) was Colgate's leading rebounder with a career-high eight, while Ben Jonson (Dallas, TX) hauled down six caroms.
After Lehigh opened a five-point advantage in the first half, Colgate came back to tie the contest 15-15 on a jumper by Gyawu with 6:57 remaining. The two teams exchanged baskets before the Mountain Hawks went on a 9-3 run for a 26-20 lead. Colgate cut the lead to three points at halftime on Venezia's 3-pointer, 26-23.
In the second half, Lehigh scored the first three points and never looked back. In a low scoring affair, Colgate stayed in the contest trailing only 39-36 with 6:08 left. However, the Raiders were stone cold from the field scoring only four points the rest of the way, including 5:30 without a point.
Colgate concludes its non-conference schedule on Saturday when the Raiders travel to Longwood University for a 2 p.m. game.
