Colgate Director of Sport Medicine Leslie Cowen announced in December 2020 the addition of Craig Leahy as an Assistant Athletic Trainer.

Leahy’s sport assignments are women’s hockey and swimming and diving.

Leahy arrives after three-plus years in the same position at Utica.

There, he worked mainly with the Division III women’s hockey program and in close concert with the AHL’s Utica Comets sports medicine staff. He did so as the sole practitioner for the Pioneers, honing his administrative skills and demonstrating an effective collaboration with team physicians, chiropractors, nutritionists and physical therapists.

Leahy also developed specialized care focused on the pelvic/sacral structures unique to hockey. His other duties with the Pioneers were spread among the 26 Utica intercollegiate teams.

While still in college, Leahy spent a travel abroad semester in Ireland at the Institute of Technology at Carlow. His interactions and education in Ireland allowed Leahy to adopt many European styles of treatment, including muscle energy and anatomy in motion techniques. Those techniques have allowed Leahy to distinguish himself from other athletic trainers in the sport of hockey.

Leahy graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 2017, earning his bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training. The Saranac Lake, New York, native added a master’s in Health Care Administration from Utica College in 2019, graduating magna cum laude.
