Josh Sciba begins his fourth season as an assistant coach on the Colgate women's hockey staff.
Sciba is the recruiting coordinator, overseeing all facets of recruiting. He's also the team travel coordinator, overseeing all travel/meal arrangements for any road trips. He assists in all player development on a daily basis, oversees the power play, works with the forwards in game, and assists with all facets of video analysis and community outreach.Â
Sciba was Niagara's head coach in 2011-12 after spending three seasons as an assistant coach with the program. He led the Purple Eagles in its final varsity year to a 10-16-8 record. He ran the offense and worked with the special teams during games and also implemented game strategies during practice. He coordinated all individual and group video sessions in each facet of the game. He made all travel arrangements and organized some of the team’s community service events that included, SABAH and Western New York Girls in Sports.
In addition to his coaching experience at Niagara, Sciba has participated in USA Hockey Girls Player Development Camps for the last five summers as either a Head Coach or On-Ice Skills Instructor/Scout.
Prior to his coaching career, he played professional hockey in the East Coast Hockey League for three different teams during the 2007-08 season. He played for the Las Vegas Wranglers, Bakersfield Condors and Dayton Bombers.
Sciba is a 2007 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, where he was a member of the hockey team from 2003-2007. As a four year Monogram Winner at Notre Dame, he was awarded the Offensive Player of the Year in 2005-06 and helped lead the Irish to the school's very first CCHA Regular Season Title and CCHA Playoff Championship in 2006-2007. He finished his career with 141 games played and tallied 72 points. Before arriving in South Bend, Sciba was an assistant captain with the USA National Team Development Program Under-17 Team and Under-18 Team. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Computer Applications.
He and his wife, Melissa, currently reside in Hamilton, NY.
