David Cheung joined the Raiders as the Director of Women’s Hockey Operations in September 2021. Cheung lived in Hong Kong with his family until the age of 10 when he moved to Vancouver, BC and grew to love hockey.
Cheung was previously a Sports Marketing and Operations Intern with the ECHL’s Jacksonville Icemen, where he primarily managed the official social media accounts and wrote post-game recaps to be published on the team’s website. He worked closely with the sales and marketing staff to promote theme nights and sell corporate sponsorships, while also being involved with customer service and promotional fan activities.
Cheung’s first experience with hockey came in 2019 as an Advanced Statistics Intern with the UMass Minutemen’s hockey team. Under the guidance of the Director of Hockey Operations, Cheung developed a new metric to track player stats and collected data during each game to serve as a reference point for line combinations and ice-time deployment. Cheung also assisted with clipping and sorting video files to expedite processes for the coaching staff.
In his role with Colgate’s Women’s Hockey team, Cheung is responsible for planning and organizing all aspects of team travel including transportation, hotels and meals. During games, Cheung serves as the video coordinator by live coding and communicating with the coaching staff regarding in-game video replay challenges.
Cheung earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration from UC Berkeley in 2017, and his Master’s in Sport Management from UMass Amherst in 2021.
