Chris Cobb was named a Volunteer Assistant Coach on the Colgate Women’s Hockey staff in August 2019.
Working with Cobb has paid dividends for Raider goalies. In the 2019-20 season, senior Liz Auby embarked on a stellar campaign under his tutelage. She broke the program record for shutouts in a season and a finished her career with the best goals against average in program history.
Cobb came to Hamilton with an abundance of coaching experience, including his most recent stop at Dartmouth, where he was an assistant coach for three seasons. He was also thrust into duty as the Big Green’s head coach for a stretch of time during the 2017-18 season while Laura Schuler was coaching the Canadian Women’s National team.
"I am ecstatic about joining the Colgate Women’s Hockey Program," said Cobb. "I want to thank Coach [Greg] Fargo for this opportunity. There is an excellent staff and team at Colgate, made up of great people who I am looking forward to working with. Colgate is the perfect next step in my career to help me continue to grow as a coach and person.
He has ECAC Hockey experience elsewhere, as he served as an assistant coach on Union’s staff during the 2015-16 season. Before his time in Schenectady, he was an assistant coach at Williams College for three seasons. He also spent time as an assistant coach and head coach at UMass Amherst over the course of eight seasons.
He is slated to primarily coach the Raiders’ goalies, as he was the on-ice instructor for Dartmouth’s netminders during his three years in Hanover.
"We're thrilled to welcome Chris to our program as he is such a well-respected person and experienced coach in our game," said Fargo. "Our players and staff are all eager to learn from him and we know he will have an immediate impact on our hockey program. Helping develop people is something that Chris is passionate about and we share the same outlook on many aspects of coaching and development."
He also is a goaltending development coach with USA Hockey and works with goalies during USA Hockey player development camps.
Along with his work with the national program, he owns a goaltending development company called “Top Prospects Goaltending USA,” where he provides goalie coaching through camps and private lessons throughout North America.
Cobb received his bachelor of science in kinesiology from UMass Amherst in 2007 and earned a master of science in coaching education from Ohio University in 2011.
