The Colgate men’s hockey program has added Chris Meriney to the staff as the Director of Hockey Operations for the 2018-19 season, as announced by head coach Don Vaughan.

“We are thrilled to have Chris join our program,” Coach Vaughan said. “He has exceptional organizational skills and is well versed in video coordination. He also has a solid hockey background, which will serve him well in this position.”

Meriney joined the Raiders after serving as the Director of Sports Science and Assistant Coach of the Pittsburgh Vengeance of the NA3HL from 2017-18. While with the Vengeance, Meriney developed a biometric player tracking data system in an effort to improve performance and reduce non-contact overuse injuries in addition to overseeing players’ rehabilitation and nutrition. In his coaching responsibilities, Meriney planned practices, gameday management, video analytics and statistics, and player skill development. In the same time frame, Meriney was also a video scout for Neutral Zone Scouting.

Prior to working with the Vengeance, Meriney was an assistant coach for the Pittsburgh Predators U16 program. In 2015-16, he was an athletic training and strength and conditioning intern with the Tampa Bay Lightning, where over the course of two fall seasons, Meriney conducted performance testing on players at the Lightning NHL Rookie and Training Camps.

“For years, the Colgate hockey student-athletes, coaches, and community has portrayed a tradition of pride and excellence,” said Meriney. “I am optimistic that we can build on the success of the program this season, and am very eager for the opportunity to work with such great hockey minds here at Colgate.”

A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Meriney graduated from the University of Tampa with a Bachelor of Science in exercise physiology in 2016. Meriney is also USA Hockey CEP Certified.
