Field Hockey Dominates Lehigh, Earns First League Win

Raiders earn first win over Lehigh since 2014

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Colgate had all the offensive momentum against Lehigh as the Raiders defeated the Mountain Hawks 4-0 to claim their first conference win of the season. The win marked the first time the Raiders have scored a goal in every quarter this season.

Colgate's win featured three goal scorers, including Ava Poliafico, Lauren Widdowson and Olivia Milia, who scored twice.

The last time Colgate defeated Lehigh on the road was in 2014, when the Raiders earned a 2-1 victory. Since then, the Raiders had lost 10 straight games to their conference foe.

GARETH TERRETT'S COMMENTS
"It was very pleasing to get back to winning ways and, most importantly, to put in an excellent performance. We caused issues for Lehigh with our high-paced attacking play and created lots of opportunities throughout the game. Ava calmly put away the stroke, and then Lauren added to the score with a brilliant, instinctive finish. We worked hard in defense to shut down their attacking options, and it was pleasing to see the players make these adaptations on the pitch through their own communication and good game understanding. When Lehigh pulled their goalkeeper very early in the fourth quarter, I think we dealt with the threat without too much concern. Liv scored an individual goal to make the game safe. One of the most pleasing elements was that Kennedy kept a clean sheet, as it is easy for the defense to lose concentration when the game is coming to an end. We will take some time to rest, recover, and refuel before preparing for the challenge of Cornell next weekend. A special mention to all the past, current, and future Colgate Field Hockey players, friends, and family who braved the elements to come and watch the fine win. Thanks for all your support."
