Colgate's Late Drive Stalls in 13-10 Loss at CMU

Last-second interception in Central Michigan territory ends upset bid

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Colgate's first FBS win in more than two decades didn't happen – but it was oh so close.

The Raiders' fourth-quarter lead slipped away late Saturday afternoon as Central Michigan answered with a touchdown in the closing minutes, handing the Raiders a 13-10 defeat at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.

Colgate's final drive sparked hope when Danny Shaban ripped off a 17-yard run with 2:00 remaining. Facing 3rd-and-long shortly after, Kam Phillips extended the drive with a spectacular diving catch along the sideline—toe-tapping one foot in bounds at midfield with 1:19 left.

The Raiders pushed inside the Central Michigan 25-yard line, but a costly holding penalty stalled the momentum before an interception on the final play sealed the Chippewas' comeback.

Shaban led the ground game with 88 rushing yards on 22 carries while adding three receptions for 12 yards. Phillips topped the receiving unit with three catches for 43 yards, and Jake Stearney finished 16-of-31 for 124 passing yards, a rushing touchdown, and two interceptions.

Trooper Price anchored a relentless Raiders defense that held Central Michigan in check for most of the afternoon, racking up a game-high 13 tackles. Justin Tedim, Tymir Wynn, and Justyn Toler recorded seven tackles apiece, with Tedim and Paul-Marie Dogui accounting for two of Colgate's three sacks.
