Raiders Drop Season Opener to No. 22 Lady Vols

Colgate splits the series 1-1

KNOXVILLE, TENN. – The Colgate Raiders fell in their season opener down south in the Tennessee Tournament. They opened play against the No. 22 Lady Vols, falling in three straight sets to Tennessee.

RYAN BAKER'S COMMENTS
"Tennessee is ranked in the top 25 for a reason. They executed at a high level in a lot of skills and played a physical style of volleyball from start to finish. Credit to their players, coaches, and fans for an awesome environment.

"We are a very young team who needs these types of experiences in order to mature fast. I'm excited to watch our response tomorrow."

MOMENTS OF THE MATCH
  • The Raiders trailed early in the first set but got the game within a three-point deficit, trailing 17-14.
  • Tiana Owens logged four kills in the first set, while Aubrey Anders recorded three.
  • The Raiders fell in the first set, 25-17.
  • To start the second set, the Lady Vols jumped out to an early lead, but Owens and Anders helped keep the set close at 15-10.
  • Tennessee's offensive prowess earned the team six straight points late in the set to pull away and eventually take set two, 25-12.
  • To start the third set, the Lady Vols used their momentum to go up 7-1.
  • Kills from Owens, Morgan Reese, Charlotte Goldfeder and Julia Headley helped the Raiders stay competitive and give chase, but Tennessee took the third set, 25-12, ending the game.
NOTES
  • The series between Tennessee and Colgate now stands at 1-1. The last time these two teams faced each other was in 2022, when Colgate took a 3-1 victory.
  • Owens and Anders led the charge for Colgate, each totaling six kills.
  • Ava Schabes and Reagan Knipling paved the way setting the team. Schabes totaled 13 assists, while Knipling notched seven.
  • Hannah Langton debuted with the Raiders, totaling 10 digs as the libero.
  • Five first-years all made their Raider debuts.
