HAMILTON – Claire Grenis joins the field hockey team as an assistant coach under the direction of first-year head coach Gareth Terrett.

Grenis, a New York native, worked with the Syracuse Field Hockey Club for the past five years, primarily working with goalkeepers.

"We are very excited about Claire joining the team behind the team. She adds excellent knowledge of goalkeeping," said Terrett. "Claire also brings four years of Division I experience, including two years as a captain and multiple championships. We are very pleased to have her on the coaching staff."

Prior to joining the Raiders, Grenis graduated from Appalachian State, where she was a four-year member of the field hockey program. Grenis was a two-time Mid-American Conference (MAC) regular-season champion in 2023 and 2024. She was also a captain for two consecutive seasons, including the 2025 season, when the Mountaineers were ranked for the first time in program history at No. 17 in the nation.

Grenis appeared in 44 games, making 41 starts, and earned the starting role in goal during her junior and senior seasons. The Syracuse native totaled 165 saves, posted a .671 save percentage and accumulated a 24-15 record in goal, while recording 10 career shutouts.

"I am so excited to get started working with the team and alongside a fantastic coaching staff in Gareth and Brooke," said Grenis. "Colgate has a legacy of developing outstanding student athletes and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue that tradition. Goalkeeping is an integral part of a team's success. I look forward to working closely with the team's fantastic goalkeeping unit and encouraging their learning and growth throughout the upcoming season."

Academically, Grenis earned a bachelor's degree in environmental science and a master's degree in geography, both from Appalachian State. Grenis was a four-time recipient of the NFHCA Division I Scholar Distinction Award, a two-time selection to the MAC All-Academic Team (2024, 2025) and a CSC Division I Academic All-District selection. She was also selected as Appalachian State's 1A FAR Academic Excellence Award recipient from the Sun Belt Conference.
