HAMILTON - The Raiders were trailing in the third period on Senior Day at the Class of 1965 Arena, but
Madeline Palumbo tied it,
Alexia Aubin scored the overtime winner, and the Raiders beat RPI 2-1 to extend their winning streak to a season-long five games.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Colgate had the majority of the chances in the opening minutes of Saturday's Senior Day matchup, but were unable to get on the board early. As the period progressed, the Raiders continued to register shots on goal and looked primed to score, but RPI's Reese Keating saved the first 10 shots she faced.
Despite a power play opportunity, Colgate still couldn't open the scoring, and the first period would end, 0-0.
As the second period began, the Raiders continued to exert pressure and held an extreme advantage in shots on goal over the Engineers. However, even with another power play chance, Colgate weren't able to find the back of the net as the period neared its conclusion.
In a complete momentum shift, RPI took a shocking lead at 19:18 when Sabrina Beaudoin, assisted by Charlotte Wensley and Aylah Cioffi, beat Brooke Davis and made it 1-0 to the Engineers. The period would end with the Raiders trailing by one.
The third period began with the Raiders down 1-0 and RPI goaltender Keating continuing her career day with 31 saves.
It took until their 36th shot on goal of the game, but Colgate finally got on the board at 7:32 when Madeline Palumbo, assisted by Avery Pickering, poked a shot past Keating to make it 1-1.
Once again, it would come down to the wire for the Raiders, as the teams entered the final two minutes of play still tied at one, and despite more pressure from the Colgate attackers, the game would head to overtime.
Early in the 3-on-3 period, Colgate continued their domination, and finally took home the win at 2:19 when Alexia Aubin scored off of an assist by Palumbo to cap off a Senior Day win.
