Colgate’s Hot Start Fizzles in 50–41 Loss to Bucknell

The Raiders fall to 0–2 in the season series with Bucknell

HAMILTON — Colgate outshone Bucknell in the first quarter, but the Bison's defense shut the Raiders down the rest of the way, allowing just 20 points over the final three quarters in a 50–41 Bucknell victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Colgate shot lights out in the first quarter, hitting 46.7% from the floor (7-for-15), 50% from 3-point range (3-for-6) and all four free-throw attempts.

The teams traded baskets early, but 3-pointers from Ella Meabon and Madison Schiller gave Colgate a 10–7 lead. Grace Klag followed with a pair of free throws, and Amarah Streiff's 3-pointer stretched the advantage to 15–7. Taye Matthews capped the quarter with two layups as the Raiders took their largest lead of the game, 21–11.

Bucknell responded in the second quarter, outscoring Colgate 11–7. After baskets on the opening possessions, the Bison went on an 8–0 run and held Colgate scoreless for four minutes to cut the deficit to 23–21.

Matthews ended the run with a jumper and free throws. Bucknell went 1-for-2 at the line before Klag closed the half with a layup, giving Colgate a 28–22 lead at the break.

Bucknell took its first lead with four minutes remaining in the third quarter, outscoring Colgate 11–3 in the period. Three different Bison players scored during the stretch.

Colgate struggled offensively, shooting 1-for-11 in the quarter. Abbey Ferguson scored the Raiders' lone basket to tie the game at 31, but Bucknell's Mariah Hardy converted off an offensive rebound to give the Bison a 33–31 edge entering the fourth.

Bucknell opened the final quarter with five quick points. Matthews knocked down a corner 3-pointer to pull Colgate within 38–35, but the Bison answered with two 3-pointers to push the lead to nine.

Colgate was unable to rally, and Bucknell sealed the win by converting 4 of 6 free throws down the stretch for a 50–41 victory.
