Colgate Drops Weekend Opener to Clarkson

Neuharth gets second goal of the season

HAMILTON - Owen Neuharth scored a second period goal to tie the score at one, but that was as close as Colgate would get on Friday night, as the Raiders fell 4-1 to Clarkson at the Class of 1965 Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Neither team could get much going in the opening minutes on Friday night, with Colgate only registering one shot in five minutes. Still, chances soon began emerging for the Raiders, with the post the only thing keeping the home side from grabbing an opener.

In the end, it would be the defenses who ruled the day early, as Colgate and Clarkson headed to the intermission deadlocked at 0-0, with just 15 shots on goal in the entire first period.

It didn't take the visitors long to find the back of the net in the second period. At 0:49, Remi Galinas scored an unassisted goal to give Clarkson a 1-0 lead.

However, Colgate would respond quickly. Owen Neuharth scored on the breakaway at 3:47 off an assist by Easton Wainwright to level the game at one.

Things sprung into action from there, with both teams nearly taking the lead before Jared Mangan scored Clarkson's second goal of the period from close range at 8:14, putting the Golden Knights in front 2-1. The goals kept coming for Clarkson, who doubled their lead 9:28 when Mael St. Denis cashed in, assisted by Tristan Sarsland and Luka Sukovic, to make it 3-1.

The rest of the second period would pass without another goal, and the Raiders went to the locker room trailing by two.

Needing a major comeback in the final twenty minutes, Colgate opened the third well, but weren't able to get a desperately needed goal as the period passed the halfway mark.

Clarkson put the game to bed at 13:58 when Justin Cote scored off of a Sarsland assist to give the Golden Knights a three-goal lead. The rest of the game passed without another score, as the Raiders suffered a 4-1 loss.
