Raiders well-represented for success beyond competition

BETHLEHEM, Pa. Four members of the Colgate University Swimming & Diving program were named Academic All-Patriot League. Matt Freund, Michael Granin, Audrey Collins, and MG King were recognized for their outstanding achievements both in the pool and the classroom.

Colgate's four Academic All-League honorees are its most in the history of the program. King joins Sami Wary as the women's team's only two-time selection.

To be eligible for the Patriot League Academic All-Patriot League awards, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average as an undergraduate and graduate (if applicable) and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Nominees must have completed at least one academic year at their institution.

Freund, a senior captain and neuroscience major, is a Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection. He scored 16 points at the Patriot League Championship, second-most on the men's team, highlighted by an 11th-place finish in the 200 Fly (1:49.84). He also recorded season-best times in the 200 IM and 200 Medley Relay.

Granin, a sophomore, led the Raiders with 21 points at the championship. He set program records in the 200 Breast (2:02.64) and 200 Free (1:38.17), and contributed to a record-breaking 800 Free Relay (6:39.75). An undeclared major, Granin is a Patriot League and Raider Academic Honor Roll honoree and has completed an internship with Resonant Growth Partners.

Collins, a senior captain and political science and religion double major, earned All-Patriot League First Team honors this season after previously being named to the Second Team. She paced the women's squad with 74 points at the championship, qualifying for three A Finals and setting a program record in the 100 Fly (54.02). A three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection, Collins has interned with New York Life and will join True Search as an analyst following graduation.

King, a junior Classics major, earned All-Patriot League First Team recognition after winning the 200 Back at the Patriot League Championship—becoming Colgate's first gold medalist since 2013 and the program's first 200 Back champion since 2012. King added a B Final win in the 100 Back and helped power three top-five relay finishes, totaling 55 points at the meet.

A two-time Academic All-Patriot League selection and three-time Academic Honor Roll honoree, King serves as president of the George W. Cobb Fellows and tutors both Greek and Latin on campus.
