Softball Splits Doubleheader in Texas

Megenity, Haluska Rip Three Homers in Twinbill

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Nora Megenity and Lily Haluska bashed homers in helping Colgate Softball to a doubleheader split on Friday, beating Stephen F. Austin 5-4 before falling to Tarleton State 14-5 in Game 2 at Tarleton's Softball Complex.

COACH LAMISON-MYERS' COMMENTS

"It's always great to get the first win of the day. I wished we were able to capitalize on the early home run in the second game. I do think the more we play outside and more comfortable we get we will start to string some things together. With a young team you will have your highs and lows. I have the utmost faith we will bounce back tomorrow."

Game 1 | Colgate 5, Stephen F. Austin 4

A five-run third inning lifted Colgate to a 5-4 win over Stephen F. Austin in the series opener. Seven Raiders tallied hits, paced by Nora Megenity's two-run homer and two RBIs. Marina Taveras, Kayla Martin, and Mia Cascio each added an RBI.

Stephen F. Austin jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Colgate surged ahead in the third. Megenity's two-run shot sparked the rally, and Taveras followed with an RBI double to score Lily Haluska. Martin and Cascio delivered back-to-back RBI singles to cap the five-hit inning and give the Raiders a 5-3 advantage.

Kelcie McGraw went the distance, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven innings with three strikeouts and one walk. After Stephen F. Austin trimmed the lead to 5-4 in the fifth, McGraw worked around late singles in the last two innings to seal Colgate's second straight victory.

Game 2 | Tarleton State 14, Colgate 5

Colgate's bats were still alive in the nightcap, scoring single runs in each of the first two frames. Haluska ignited an early punch with her first home run of the season before Tealla Rivera drove in Izzy Ervin-Agudelo with an RBI single to give the Raiders an early 2-1 lead.

Tarleton State took the lead for good with two runs in the home half of the third before opening the margin with a six-run fourth inning. The Texans were aided by two errors and tallied three hits in the frame to build a 9-2 advantage.

Haluska's power surge continued in the top of the fifth when she bashed her second home run of the game – a three-run blast to left-center – closing the gap to 9-5. Tarleton State countered with three runs in the home half of the inning to pull away for the triumph.

Haluska's two hits and four RBIs paced the Raiders offensively. Megenity, Cascio, and Rivera each registered one hit. Alexa Acker shouldered the loss in the circle allowing five runs (three earned) with three strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings of work.
