STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Colgate dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader, falling to South Dakota State 11-3 and Tarleton State 20-9 at the Texans' softball complex.
Game 1 | South Dakota State 11, Colgate 3
Colgate opened the scoring when Marina Taveras singled to center and came around to score on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second. Taveras would end up with two hits in the contest along with Analisa Raffaeli, who drilled a pair of home runs in the defeat.
South Dakota State scored eight unanswered runs with four-spots in the third and fifth innings to open a comfortable lead. Raffaelli's first homer was a solo shot to left in the bottom of the fifth, and then she capped the scoring with another solo blast in the bottom of the seventh.
Raffaelli and Taveras combined for four of Colgate's seven hits. Lily Haluska, Katie Niven, and Izzy Ervin-Agudelo each recorded one hit. Alexa Acker took the loss in the circle allowing four runs (three earned) over four innings of work.
Game 2 | Tarleton State 20, Colgate 9
Tarleton State scored in every inning of the nightcap, opening a substantial lead after plating five runs in the first, eight in the second, and five more in the third. Nora Megenity got the Raiders on the board with an RBI groundout, scoring Mia Cascio in the top of the third.
Mackenzie Lewis put a charge into her first career home run – a three-run blast to deep left field, igniting an eight-run top of the fifth. Colgate registered seven hits in the frame after three straight RBI knocks from Haluska, Taveras, and Tealla Rivera cut the deficit to 20-8.
Ervin-Agudelo capped the scoring with an RBI double to right-center. A groundout ended the game with the Texans preserving the five-inning victory, 20-9.
