Raiders defeat West Georgia and fall to Georgia State

ATLANTA  — Colgate split day two of the Bob Heck Memorial Tournament on Saturday, defeating West Georgia, 8-3, and falling to Georgia State, 6-1.

Game 1: Colgate 8, West Georgia 3
  • West Georgia started the scoring with a solo shot in the bottom of the first.
  • The Raiders were threatening in the top of the second when they loaded the bases with no outs, but they were retired in order after that to end the side scoreless.
  • First-year Analisa Raffaelli launched her second home run in as many games to kick off the third inning and knot the score at one.
  • Senior Amanda DeSantis lifted a three-run shot to assert a 4-3 Colgate lead, but West Georgia answered with a two-run homer to keep the score within one run.
  • Another RBI from Raffaelli stretched the lead to two in the fifth, and senior Quinn Livesay added on with a two-out, two-RBI double.
  • Three straight walks continued the rally and plated another run before a ground out stopped the bleeding for West Georgia.
  • Junior Alexa Acker continued her stellar relief outing by retiring the Wolves in order to seal the 8-3 victory.

Game 2: Colgate 1, Georgia State 6
  • The Raider bats were silenced besides an Acker double in the second inning and a Livesay single in the fourth.
  • Georgia State capitalized by taking a 2-0 lead after the first, doubling its advantage with a two-run fifth frame.
  • Colgate pushed one run across the plate in the top of the seventh when consecutive batters were hit by a pitch and walked to score Herbst.
