TOWSON, Md. — Junior
Maya Servedio ended her first-career complete game shutout with a personal-best nine strikeouts, and Colgate used a six-run seventh inning to pull away from Coppin State, 7-0, in the final game of the DiMarini Tiger Clash on Saturday morning.
"It took us a minute to get going but I'm super happy how we stayed in the game and continued to fight," head coach Marissa Lamison-Myers said. "Maya threw incredibly and kept giving our offense a chance. It's great to finish a game like that."
An RBI double from senior Quinn Livesay in the top of the third gave Servedio a 1-0 cushion that she would guard for the majority of the game. With Servedio dealing in the circle, the Raiders used a six-run seventh inning powered by consecutive two-run doubles from junior Alexa Acker and senior Jillian Herbst to pull away late in Colgate's second-straight win.
First-year Analisa Raffaelli also continued her hot streak for the Raiders going 2-for-3 and scoring two runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Servedio struck out four and only conceded two hits through two innings, allowing Livesay's RBI double to score first-year Raffaelli and put Colgate in front, 1-0.
- Servedio continued dealing in the circle striking out four more Eagles across the next three innings, two of which saw Coppin State retired in order.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Servedio allowed just her third hit of the day on a single to right field, but she forced a pop-out out of the next batter before her eighth strikeout sent Colgate to the seventh still defending a 1-0 lead.
- Colgate added some insurance runs in the top of the final frame when pinch hitter Alexa Acker poked a two-RBI double into center field to score senior Mia Edwards and first-year Mackenzie Lewis.
- Senior Jillian Herbst roped another two-bagger to right center on the very next at-bat to stretch a 5-0 advantage for the Raiders.
- Raffaelli earned her second hit of the game to keep the rally going, and back-to-back walks from Livesay and first-year Lily Haluska added to the lead while keeping the bases full with one out.
- After a sacrifice fly from first-year Hailey Gald increased the advantage to 7-0, Servedio slammed the door on the Eagles with a one, two, three seventh to seal the Raiders' second-straight win.
