Raiders Split Day One in Towson

Colgate drops contest to Bryant before comeback win against Towson

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TOWSON, Md.  — Colgate softball split the first day of the DiMarini Tiger Clash, falling to Bryant, 4-1, before a nine-inning, 13-12 win over host Towson in to cap the Friday doubleheader. In the six-run comeback versus the Tigers, Colgate logged 19 hits, the most in a single game in over a decade.

"I am really proud of the team and the fight they showed today," head coach Marissa Lamison-Myers said. "After dropping the first game and going down early in the second, our team dug in our heels and didn't quit. The home run ball was huge for us today. Clutch hitting by our first years also was great to see."

Junior Maya Servedio tossed six innings and only conceded one earned run, while senior Jillian Herbst went two-for-three day at the plate scoring Colgate's only run in game one.

The first-years stole the show in game two led by Analisa Raffaelli who went four-for-five with five RBIs and three runs scored. Lily Haluska launched two home runs in a two-for-six, three RBI performance, and Mia Cascio was on base four times in five at-bats, including a two-run homer with two outs in the top of the seventh.

Game 1: Colgate 1 Bryant 4
Servedio struck out three of her first eight batters faced in two scoreless innings, while Haluska reached base safely for her ninth-straight outing with a single in the second.

Bryant broke through first with an unearned run in the top of the third, doubling the advantage with a two-out infield single in the fourth.

Herbst doubled in the left field gap for her second hit of the game to start a rally in the bottom of the sixth, and senior Quinn Livesay capitalized for the Raiders, doubling Herbst home to cut the Bulldogs' lead in half.

With first-year Mikala Ham in as the reliever, Bryant reasserted a two-run lead with a solo homer to begin the seventh. The Bulldogs added an insurance run, this time unearned, with another error in the outfield to stretch a 4-1 advantage that would hold for the remainder of the contest.

Game 2: Colgate 13, Towson 12 (9 innings)
Towson took a one zero lead after an unearned run crossed the plate in the bottom of the first. The Raiders responded quickly with back-to-back solo home runs from Raffaelli and reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Week Haluska.

The 2-1 lead did not hold for long as the Tigers stormed back with five runs in the bottom of the third to retake the advantage.

Walks from Casio and Herbst put two aboard with one out in the top of the sixth, setting the stage for Raffaelli's second homer of the day, this time a three-run shot.

Down to their last out in the seventh, Cascio lifted her first-career home run, a two-run missile over the center field wall, to bring the Raiders within one.

Senior Claire Whalen and Herbst drew consecutive four-pitch walks to continue the two-out rally, bringing the red hot Raffaelli back to the plate with runners on base. The first-year delivered, poking an RBI single into right to score Whalen and knot the contest at eight all heading to the bottom of the seventh.

Ham worked out of a one-out, bases-loaded jam to send the game to extra innings, where Haluska sent her second homer over the wall to put Colgate in front, 10-8.

Towson did not go away, tying the score with a two-RBI double. Livesay recaptured the lead for Colgate with a sacrifice fly, and senior Amanda DeSantis tacked on two more insurance tallies with a two-RBI single.

The Tigers made things interesting in the bottom of the ninth when they brought the game within one, but Servedio slammed the door with a strikeout to seal the win for the Raiders.
