King Named to Academic All-Patriot Team

Colgate Swimming’s first academic honoree since 2014

HAMILTON – Sophomore MG King added to their postseason honors collection with Academic All-Patriot League honors, announced Thursday afternoon.

King secured a spot on the 12-athlete Academic All-Patriot League team after compiling 68 points for the Raiders during the four-day Patriot League championship last weekend. The sophomore became Colgate's first Academic All-League honoree since 2014 (Sami Wary).

King landed three top-10 finishes in the Patriot League championship, headlined by their second-place finish in the 200 Back (1:58.44). They also contributed to the 400 Medley Relay team that captured bronze (3:41.17), Colgate's first relay podium since 2014.

The Lake Forrest, Ill., native also placed seventh in the 100 Back (55.45) and 10th in the 500 Free (4:56.10) to secure 68 points for the Raiders who placed eighth as a team with 505.5 total points.

To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player within their sport. Freshmen or student-athletes in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.

The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Men's and Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out during the summer.

These honors recognize student-athletes who excel in their sport and the classroom. The awards are voted on by Patriot League men's and women's swimming and diving sports information directors, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.
