Colgate's Comeback Falls Short in Overtime

Raiders erase three-goal deficit before Bulldogs net overtime winner

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Colgate erased a three-goal deficit in the third period and tied the game at 4-4, but Yale scored the overtime winner to take a 5-4 victory Friday evening at Ingalls Rink.

COACH HARDER'S COMMENTS
"After two lackluster periods, our group showed a lot of resilience in coming back to tie. We will take the point, regroup, and look for more tomorrow."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Raiders trailed 4-1 heading into the third but fought back, sending the game to overtime.
  • After Colgate pulled its goalie, Ryan Sullivan tied the game at 4-4 with 57 seconds remaining in the third. Tommy Bergsland passed to Max Nagel, who threw the puck in front. Sullivan redirected it into the goal to even the score.
  • The Raiders scored two quick goals at the start of the third to pull within one. Brett Chorske made it 4-3 at the 17:33 mark when he got free on a breakaway and finished a shot after intercepting a Yale pass.
  • Less than a minute and a half prior, Michael Neumeier had cut the deficit in half at 4-2. Jake Schneider tapped the puck to Chorske, who hit it back to Neumeier. The first-year played it back to Chorske before receiving it again. He then skated in and buried a shot.
  • Hughie Hooker scored the overtime winner for Yale with 2:58 remaining.
  • The Bulldogs took a 4-1 advantage in the second after scoring three straight goals.
  • Simone Dadiè had tied the score at 1-1. Robby Newton hit the puck to Neumeier who skated down the ice before dropping a pass back to Dadiè. The first-year then sniped a shot between the goalie and the right post.
  • Yale pulled ahead 1-0 with a goal from Connor Sullivan just under five minutes into the first.
  • The Raiders' only power play chance of the game came in the first, which was shortened to 37 seconds after getting called for a penalty.
GAME NOTES
  • Sullivan scored for the second straight game.
  • Nagel has logged a point in three of the previous four contests.
  • Neumeier (1G, 1A) recorded the second multipoint game of his career.
  • Takacs finished with 17 saves in goal.
