CAMBRIDGE, Mass.— No. 5 Colgate survived a near-upset and claimed two crucial ECAC points with a 3-2 overtime win over Harvard on the road Friday night. The Raiders trailed for 17 minutes the third period, but sophomore
Kaia Malachino sniped the game-tying score with three minutes remaining in regulation.
Fifth-year Kristýna Kaltounková potted her program-record 19th game-winning goal two and a half minutes into the extra frame, keeping Colgate within striking distance of the league's first overall seed with seven games until the ECAC playoffs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- First-year Alexia Aubin struck first with her fifth goal of the season coming against the flow of play, tapping a loose puck off the boards to herself before weaving through two defenders and beating the netminder blocker-side.
- Colgate led shots on goal in the second period 11-1 until a five minute major went against the Raiders with four minutes until the second intermission.
- Harvard would capitalize on the extended power-play to open the third, scoring twice on the woman-up advantage to jump out to a 2-1 lead.
- Aubin went playmaking again late in the final frame, dishing a crafty pass to Malachino for the game-tying score with under three minutes remaining in regulation.
- In three-on-three overtime action, Kaltounková was the hero when she capitalized on a plethora of open space, calmly closing in on the goalie before picking her spot top left with a speedy wrister.
GAME NOTES
- First-year Georgia Sambrano earned her first-career assist on Aubin's first-period goal.
- Kaltounková extended her point streak to a team-high four games where she has racked up seven points.
- Colgate moves to 13-1 when outshooting their opponent this season.
