HAMILTON — Niko Rexine scored a late-third-period goal to lift Colgate past Dartmouth 3-2 Friday evening at the Class of 1965 Arena.
REXINE ON HIS GOAL
"It was great to find a way to get the win. Every game is important this time of year, and we got the job done. I saw Chorske was loose on a breakaway and joined in case of a rebound. The puck came out at a tough angle and I tried to get it on the net and fortunately found its way to the back of the net."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rexine netted the game-winner with 3:14 left in the final period. Reid Irwin deflected a pass along the boards that got picked up by a Dartmouth player. Brett Chorske stole it and got free on a breakaway before being denied by the goalie. Rexine swooped in and found the rebound, lifting a backhand shot that deflected off the netminder and went into the goal.
- Dartmouth knotted the score at 2-2 with a tally from CJ Foley at the 6:44 mark of the third.
- The Raiders took a 2-1 advantage thanks to a goal from Irwin with just under seven and a half minutes remaining in the middle frame. Chorske played a pass back to Brett Merner, who passed across the ice to Irwin. The senior skated to the left before ripping a shot between the blue line and the faceoff circle.
- Dartmouth had drawn even with five seconds left in the opening period when Luke Haymes found the back of the net.
- Jake Schneider gave the Raiders a 1-0 advantage seven minutes into the first. Daniel Panetta fired a shot that got saved and was collected by Ryan Sullivan, who skated in and dished a short pass across to Schneider, who finished it into an open net.
- Colgate picked up two penalty kills in the third to prevent Dartmouth from scoring another.
