Box Score CANTON, N.Y. — The No. 4/5 Colgate Raiders defeated No. 8 St. Lawrence, 3-1, in an exhibition contest at Appleton Arena on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore forwards
Madeline Palumbo and
Emma Pais led the Raiders offensively, chipping in two points apiece with a goal and assist each.
The Raiders were outshot 13-5 in the opening period, but they headed into the first break with an even score thanks to 13 first-period saves from senior netminder and Preseason All-ECAC selection Hannah Murphy.
St. Lawrence continued its hot start with the first score of the afternoon five minutes into the second stanza, slotting a shot past Colgate's first-year goaltender Farah Walker in net.
Sparked by the 1-0 deficit, the Raiders' offense jolted to life as they went on to outshoot the Saints 6-2 through the remainder of the evenly-matched period.
Pais drew Colgate even four minutes into the final frame when she glided by a St. Lawrence defender and slid a puck through the goaltenders legs.
With three minutes remaining in the contest, Pais went streaking down the left side before dropping off a pass to Palumbo who buried a wrister from the slot.
St. Lawrence quickly opted for an empty net, allowing senior forward Neena Brick to add Colgate's final score with just seconds remaining.
