CANTON, N.Y. – No. 3 Colgate dropped a road ECAC contest to No. 8 St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Saints, 3-2, in overtime.
After trailing by one goal at the first intermission, the Raiders rallied back late in the second stanza. Danielle Serdachny notched a tally for the second-straight game after converting in transition courtesy of an Elyssa Biederman assist.
The Raiders then took the lead three minutes later when Allyson Simpson sniped her sixth goal of the season. The fifth-year defender unleashed a rocket from the top of the faceoff circle where the puck ricocheted off two Saints before finding the back of the net for a power-play goal.
Guarding a one-score lead, the Raiders avoided disaster at the six-minute mark when Neena Brick was sent to the box for cross-checking. An Ava Svejkovsky blocked shot helped Colgate kill the penalty, but they quickly found themselves back on the PK when Svejkovsky was called for interference.
The Saints cashed in on the advantage this time, knotting the score at two where it would stay for the final 10 minutes of regulation.
Colgate silenced the home crowd in overtime when Serdachny drew a penalty that put the Raiders in a four-on-three power-play, but the visitors could not capitalize.
Just seconds after killing the penalty, the Saints marched down the ice to score the game-winner and hand Colgate their second-straight loss for the first time all season.
