Pickering’s fourth goal of the season not enough to beat Bulldogs

Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. – First-year defender Avery Pickering potted her fourth goal of the season in the opening frame, but it was not enough as the No. 14 Yale Bulldogs took down the Raiders, 3-1, on Friday night.

Colgate started slow in the first period and was outshot by the home side, 5-3, before Pickering collected a rebound off a Kristýna Kaltounková miss and slotted it inside the near post.

The Bulldogs were quick to bounce back, however, knotting the score at one before the first intermission with a goal from Anna Bargman.

Head Coach Greg Fargo's group was stymied in the second stanza, held to only nine shots while allowing Yale to tack on two more tallies to break the game open.

A lack of scoring chances in the offensive zone saw Colgate fail to get in rhythm in the final period, ultimately falling to the Bulldogs in Ingalls Ice Rink for the first time in two years.

The Raiders still have everything to play for on Saturday when they travel to Brown, with a chance to clinch the ECAC regular season title with a win against the Bears on the road.
