Raiders Fall to Bulldogs

Colgate drops narrow 4-3 thriller to Yale

HAMILTON  — Colgate narrowly fell to Yale, 4-3, on Saturday night inside the Class of 1965 Arena. First-year defender Michael Neumeier led the Raiders with two points, but a blistering two-goal third period by the Bulldogs proved too strong.

A furious start to the game with all four goals being scored before the first media timeout was the highlight of the night. Nuemeier, first-year forward Max Nagel, and senior forward Alex DiPaolo were the three goalscorers for Colgate.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Raiders opened the scoring six minutes into the game when Nagel took advantage of a power play, but the Bulldogs responded less than a minute later with a goal of their own.
  • At the nine minute mark, Yale added a power play goal, but it was Colgate's turn to score less than a minute later, with Neumeier sneaking a beautiful shot into the bottom right corner.
  • The Raiders had two strong penalty kills to end the first period to ensure the score stayed tied.
  • Colgate had a very strong second period, where they capitalized on a power play with a DiPaolo goal to take the lead, 3-2.
  • At the 16 minute mark of the second, the Raiders managed to either block or save a Yale barrage of eight shots over a 50 second period.
  • Yale jumped on Colgate at the beginning of the third where they scored at the three minute mark to level the game. Then, 20 seconds later, the Bulldogs took the lead which they held for the rest of the matchup.

GAME NOTES
  • Nagel continued his strong start to the season with his third career goal.
  • Neumeier chipped in his first career multi-point performance.
  • Colgate won the face-off battle 32-28.
  • DiPaolo joins Antonio Fernandez and Brett Chorske for the team lead in goals with his fourth of the season. Dipaolo and Chorske are also tied for the team lead with ten points.
