Raiders Earn Two Points With Shootout Win

Colgate grabs shootout win in eight-goal thriller against #17 Big Green

HANOVER, N.H. — Colgate triumphed over Dartmouth in a shootout after the game ended in a 4-4 tie. The Raiders took the shootout 1-0, as goaltender Andrew Takacs refused to let any penalty shots by the Big Green get past him.

The Raiders were led by four different goal scorers, along with Reid Irwin and Jake Schneider each providing two assists.

COACH HARDER'S COMMENTS
"It was a really gutsy effort by our team tonight. We wanted the three points but will take the two with the shootout win."

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Dartmouth got an early 1-0 lead, scoring within the first two minutes of action.
  • At the three-minute mark, the Raiders took advantage of a power play opportunity, where they forced four saves but could not find the net.
  • Colgate rode that momentum to level the score, with Ben Raymond scoring at the 6:45 mark.
  • Dartmouth retook the lead 10:56 into the period, but Colgate again leveled, when Jacob Napier scored a thunderous slapshot for his first career goal.
  • The Raiders had a very clean penalty kill at the five-minute mark of the second period, where they did not allow Dartmouth to get off a single shot.
  • The Big Green would take the lead for the third time at the 15:24 mark.
  • After another strong penalty kill, Daniel Panetta showed some impressive stick skills to beat the goaltender and level the game up yet again 3-3 at the 3:39 mark, but two minutes later Dartmouth scored again.
  • Colgate kept showing their resiliency and finally was rewarded with a Brett Chorske power play goal with 12 minutes left to play to tie the game at 4-4.
  • The Raiders started the shootout out strong, scoring on their first attempt, which proved to be all they needed, as the Big Green could not score any of their three attempts.

GAME NOTES

  • Both sides had 28 shots on goal, with both goalies finishing with a .857 save percentage.
  • Dartmouth won the face off battle 32-26.
  • Colgate only gave up three penalties and scored one power play goal.
  • The Raiders had 13 blocked shots.
