HAMILTON — Elyssa Biederman tallied three points,
Neena Brick registered two tallies, and
Hannah Murphy made 30 saves in No. 6/7 Colgate's 4-1 win against Maine on Saturday afternoon.
The Raiders scored all four goals in the third period after trailing 1-0 for over 43 minutes of action. The win solidifies Colgate's second home sweep in two weeks and improves the nationally-ranked Raiders to 7-3 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Maine struck first after the Black Bear goalie stood on her head in the early going, thwarting a number of promising chances for the Raiders and making 13 opening-period saves.
- The Raiders did not log a shot in the second period until five minutes in, when Biederman bounced one off the netminder's leg pad.
- A five-minute major went against the visitor's late in the middle stanza, and Colgate peppered three promising shots on goal, but none found the back of the net.
- Operating with three and a half minutes of remaining power play to open the third, Brick extended her point streak to six games with her third goal of the season.
- Sophomore forward Madeline Palumbo netted her first game-winner of the campaign at the 13:24 mark, weaving a breakout pass from senior defender Gwen Eichfeld sideways across the blue line before sniping Colgate's second score of the final frame.
- Before Maine had a chance to pull its goalie from net, Biederman notched her fourth multi-point game of the season after first year forward Alexia Aubin found her unmarked in front of the net.
- Biederman would tack on one more score on the empty net, Colgate's first empty-netter of the season.
GAME NOTES
- Murphy put together the eighth 30+ save game of her career and her second of the season.
- Brick and Biederman both now hold six game point streaks, while Pais extended her scoring streak to a team-high seven games.
- Aubin extended her point streak to four games. She has scored seven points in that span with two goals and five assists.
