ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Casey Borgiel scored her first goal as a Raider as part of a multi-point performance, but eight Raider penalties accumulated 30 penalty minutes that led to Colgate's third loss of the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
A physical opening period saw a combined eight penalties, a theme that would continue for the entirety of the afternoon. Luckily for the Raiders, goalie Farah Walker was up to the task in the early going stopping 11 RIT shots on goal, five in quick succession on a Colgate penalty kill.
Biederman finally broke through for the Raiders with eight minutes remaining in the first, firing a puck through traffic that deflected off a Tiger and found the back of the net.
In the second stanza, the Raiders picked up another penalty, this time a five-minute major, that allowed the Tigers to slot the equalizer at the halfway point of the period.
Still trying to kill the major, a hooking penalty put Colgate in a 3-5 disadvantage for two minutes, but RIT put too many players on the ice which made for 4-5 action for 45 seconds.
After two periods of play, Colgate entered the second intermission having only played 10 minutes with five skaters on the ice racking up 30 penalty minutes.
The Raiders fell behind, 2-1, halfway through the third when an errant pass led to an unmarked Tiger with the puck at her stick just feet in front of Walker. But the Raiders had an answer two minutes later when Borgiel netted Colgate's second power-play score of the game.
RIT would not go away, however, scoring the game-winner with five minutes remaining. A handful of promising Colgate chances followed when Walker was pulled from net, but the Tigers buried an empty-netter from inside their own defensive zone to seal the Raiders' fate.
