CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Colgate took an early 2-0 lead, but Harvard scored five unanswered goals and never looked back in a 6-3 defeat of the Raiders Saturday evening at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center.
"Not the way we wanted to finish the weekend but we will continue to get better and prepare for a couple of big home games," said head coach Mike Harder.
Alex DiPaolo found the back of the net for the fourth-straight game at the 8:25 mark of the first to put Colgate ahead 1-0.
Brett Chorske took the puck away from a Crimson player behind the net and played it to
Ben Raymond, who tried a shot that bounced off the goalie's pads to DiPaolo, who finished one off the rebound.
Just a minute and 18 seconds later,
Daniel Panetta scored to double the lead and extend his point streak to three games. Following a pass from
Jake Schneider,
Ethan Manderville passed across to Panetta, who slid a shot past an outstretched goalie.
Harvard got one back in the first period, with Joe Miller scoring just over 12 minutes in. The Crimson controlled the middle frame, logging three goals in the period. Marek Hejduk scored just under six minutes in to tie the score at 2-2. Casey Severo notched a goal 21 seconds later to give his squad the lead.
Ben MacDonald made it a two-goal game with a power play tally at the 11:26 mark. MacDonald then scored another a minute and 46 seconds into the third to make it 5-2.
The Raiders found an answer from
Simon Labelle with 12:45 left in the final period.
Tommy Bergsland skated along the goal line before dishing a pass to Labelle, who tucked in a shot between the goalie and the left post, cutting the Crimson lead to two.
Harvard added an empty netter from Miller with 3:03 remaining to secure the 6-3 victory.
Carter Gylander stopped 23 shots in net for the Raiders, who outshot the Crimson 37-29.
