EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — Colgate dropped a 3-2 overtime decision in its series opener against LIU at Northwell Health Ice Center Friday evening.
The Sharks scored 2:03 into the extra period to take the victory after Grayson Constable found the back of the net. Colgate controlled possession for much of the first portion of overtime but could not generate many scoring chances.
In the first, the Raiders scored two power-play goals to maintain a one-goal lead after 20 minutes.
Simon Labelle got things going just under four and a half minutes in.
Levi Glasman played the puck to
Reid Irwin, who passed back-and-forth with Labelle before the sophomore found a good look at the goal and fired a shot past the goalie.
LIU knotted the score at 1-1 at the 10:12 mark of the first with a power play goal from Austin Brimmer.
Alex DiPaolo then regained the lead for Colgate, scoring with 1:09 left in the first and just seven seconds into a man-up chance.
Ross Mitton passed down low to
Brett Chorske, who dished the puck across the ice to DiPaolo for a one-timer he slammed home.
The Sharks were the only team to score in the middle frame, with Josh Zary putting one in at the 16:45 mark to tie the game at 2-2.
Colgate had two other power play chances in the game, one in the second and one with just over a minute left in the third that carried over to the extra period, but it could not capitalize.
Carter Gylander made 31 saves in net for the Raiders.
