Women’s Hockey Moving On

Colgate captured game three to advance in the ECAC Hockey playoffs

HAMILTON – The Colgate Women's Ice Hockey Team captured a 2-1 win in the Class of 1965 Arena Sunday afternoon over Princeton to advance in conference playoffs. 

In an intense back-and-forth battle throughout 60 minutes of play, Colgate captured game three in a best-of-three series to advance to the ECAC semi-finals. The Raiders blocked four shots to secure the win in the final minute of play. 

Colgate earned their 30th win of the season for the second year in a row and third all-time. The Raiders were led by Neena Brick, Kristýna Kaltounková, and Danielle Serdachny. Kaltounková and Serdachny recorded team-highs of two points apiece. Brick opened up the Raiders scoring just seven minutes into the first period as she tied the game after an early Princeton goal. 

Kaltounková netted the game-winner three minutes into the third frame as she scored her team-high 23rd goal of the season. The junior forward is tied for fifth in career points with 115. 

Princeton opened up the scoring six minutes into the first period as Captain Sarah Fillier scored her 19th off an odd-man rush. Freshman goalie Taylor Hyland stopped 43 of 45 shots and she faced 38 shots through the opening 40 minutes of play. 

Kayle Osborne backstopped the Raiders as she moved to 13-4-1 on the season as she captured her 40th career win. Osborne made 20 saves. 

Colgate's power play went five for eight through three games as it recorded 11 shots in total. The Raider penalty kill went seven for eight as they conceded one goal in Princeton's Friday night win. 

Maggie MacEachern blocked three shots in Sunday's game, as she blocked a team-high seven shots through three games.

"After battling through a tough series against Princeton, we are thrilled to come out on top and secure our spot in the ECAC semi-finals. These games were intense and challenging, but we never gave up and we fought our way back from behind multiple times this weekend. There was a lot to like about our game today as our perseverance ultimately paid off. 

"We couldn't be more proud of our team's effort. We're excited to keep pushing forward and see what we can accomplish next."

UP NEXT
The Raiders pack up the buses as it heads to New Haven, Conn. for the ECAC semi-finals against No. 8 Quinnipiac. The Bobcats swept Colgate this season as they lost 0-3 on the road and 1-2 in OT at home. Puck drop is set for Friday at 6:30 p.m. inside Ingalls Rink. 

IN THE OTHER BRACKET
No. 2 Yale takes on No. 9 Clarkson Friday at 3:00 p.m. as the winner of their match will face off against the winner of Colgate/Quinnipiac. Yale comes into the weekend as the host as they claimed the ECAC Hockey Regular Season Championship.
