NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A pair of quick goals in the third period gave Yale a 4-2 victory over Colgate Friday evening.
The Raiders got on the board first with a goal from
Alex Young three and a half minutes into the first.
Colton Young passed to brother Alex before dishing the puck to
Matt Verboon, who played it back to the junior for a one-timer he hit off the right post and into the back of the net.
It was Young's 19th goal of the season and extended his point streak to 17 games.
Yale then tied it up at 1-1 with a goal from Connor Sullivan one minute later.
Daniel Panetta scored at the 11:39 mark of the first to put Colgate ahead 2-1.
Bobby Metz passed to
Levi Glasman, who skated the puck over the blue line before hitting a centering pass to Panetta. The freshman skated in and snuck a shot past the Bulldogs' goalie for his third goal of the season. Metz' assist on the play marked his first career point.
Colgate had two power play chances in the opening 20 minutes, but it could not add to its lead. The Raiders also shut down two Yale power plays in the period.
Neither side was able to score in the middle frame. Colgate fired seven shots in the second and had another power play chance it could not capitalize on.
The Raiders entered the third period with a 2-1 lead and held control until 10:11 remaining when Ian Carpentier scored a power play goal off of passes from Cole Donhause and Ryan Conroy to make it a 2-2 game.
Just 40 seconds later, the Bulldogs took a 3-2 lead when Reilly Connors put one in the goal. Henry Wagner passed to Sullivan, who took a shot that deflected off
Carter Gylander's pads to Connors for a shot he finished off the rebound.
Colgate had a pair of penalties late in the third, including 35 seconds of five-on-three action, during which it could not equalize.
The Bulldogs topped off the scoring with an empty net goal after Conroy fired one the length of the ice to make it 4-2.
The Raiders finished with a 25-24 advantage in shots. Gylander made 20 saves in net for Colgate.

Head Coach Don Vaughan
"Obviously, a disappointing loss. We had a lot of chances to extend the lead at 2-1, but we didn't finish. At the end of the night, we didn't win enough one-on-one battles and that usually decides a game. We know what lies ahead. It's the ECAC, and it usually plays out this way for a lot of teams. We have control over whether we get the bye or not. This is college hockey. We will regroup and be ready for tomorrow."
