HAMILTON – The No. 3/3 Colgate Raiders earned their sixth win of the year against a ranked opponent, defeating No. 9/9 Quinnipiac, 4-1, to extend their winning streak to 12 games. Sophomore
Elyssa Biederman chipped in two points while transfer classmate
Sydney Morrow bumped her point streak to nine consecutive games.
"I think it was a little bit of an adjustment period with a new team trying to find your role and build chemistry with all your teammates early in the season," Morrow said. "But as the games have gone on the chemistry has just continued to build and now my teammates have more confidence in me and I have more confidence in them."
Morrow has now registered four multi-point performances this season, most recently contributing three assists in Colgate's victory over No. 13/14 Princeton on Friday night.
In Saturday's triumph, Morrow kicked off the scoring when she slotted a wrister on the assist from Madeline Palumbo. Quinnipiac responded quickly, but a Biederman score pushed the Raiders back in front with four minutes remaining in the first frame. Kristýna Kaltounková, who also had two points on the night, then finished off a rebounded shot in front on the power play that ballooned Colgate's lead to two.
After a man-up score from the nation's leader in power play goals, the Raiders upped the tempo coming out of the first intermission. A Bobcats' goal seemingly cut the lead in half, but it was overturned due to an offsides call. Colgate pounced on the lost momentum, outshooting the visitors 11-5 during the rest of the second stanza.
An evenly-matched third period turned dangerous for the home side when Danielle Serdachny headed to the box with just under six minutes remaining, but the Raiders successfully killed the late penalty.
With time winding down, an empty-net score from first-year Emma Pais ensured Colgate's eighth league win of the season.
