HAMILTON — UMass Lowell scored three goals in the third period to pull ahead and secure a 4-2 victory over Colgate Friday evening in the Class of 1965 Arena.
Colgate got goal contributions from senior
Pierson Brandon and first-year
Ryan Sullivan. Matt Crasa led the visitors, scoring all four of the River Hawks' goals.
The Raiders' first goal came during a five-on-three power play 7:05 into the second after UMass Lowell got called for two penalties less than a minute apart from each other.
Pierson Brandon made quick work on the two-man advantage, firing one home off a pass from
Ethan Manderville for his third goal of the season.
Nick Anderson picked up the secondary on the play.
Sullivan scored his first career goal to make it a one-goal game at 3-2 with 6:54 remaining in the third.
Niko Rexine took the puck away from a River Hawk player and tapped it to
Levi Glasman, who played it back to Rexine. He then connected with Sullivan, who ripped a shot from inside the left faceoff circle. Rexine's assist marked his first collegiate point.
The Colgate tally stopped three straight River Hawk goals that put them ahead 3-1. UMass Lowell pulled even at 1-1 with three and a half minutes left in the middle frame with Crasa's first of the night. He then put two more in at the start of the third. Crasa sealed the deal with his fourth of the contest following Sullivan's goal with 2:11 left in the game, making it 4-2.
The first period went scoreless, despite Colgate having two power play opportunities and outshooting UMass Lowell 13-7. The second man-advantage came at the 12:41 mark, and the Raiders fired five shots, but could not find the back of the net.
Carter Gylander made 32 saves in net, including 14 stops in the second and 11 in the third.
