Box Score TROY, N.Y. – The weekend trip to New York State's Capitol District was a successful one as Colgate won its second game in as many nights with a 3-2 victory over RPI. The win followed a come from behind 6-4 victory over Union College on Friday night. The wins moved the Raiders into fifth-place in the ECAC Hockey league standings. Colgate is 4-0-1 over its last five games.
The Raiders drew first blood in the opening period on
Paul McAvoy's first goal of the season. McAvoy took a feed off a scrum along the boards at the top of the left faceoff circle and drilled a shot to the upper right-hand corner of the net.
Matt Verboon and
Griffin Lunn had the assists.
RPI answered with just 1:22 remaining in the first on a goal by Jack Agnew from Ture Linden and Ryan Mahshie. The goal came after an apparent inadvertent whistle as the puck trickled through Raider goalkeeper
Mitch Benson's pads. After a video review the goal was counted.
Colgate scored early and late in the second period. The Raiders took their second lead just 1:26 into the stanza on a goal by
Colton Young from the middle of the attacking zone. As he approached the net with the puck Colgate's
Alex Young was taken out by an Engineer defender and after knocking the puck back to
Colton Young, slid into Rensselaer goalie Jack Watson.

Alex Young knocked Watson off his feet.

Josh McKechney recorded the helpers. The Raiders
Levi Glasman deposited the third goal on a feed from the right side to straight away center from
Ross Mitton.
Ryan McGuire had the second assist with 1:45 left in the period.
RPI got a third period gift goal when Mason Klee sent a shot toward the net. The Raiders' McGuire deflected the puck in an attempt to block the shot. Benson never saw the puck as it went in over his left shoulder with 9:01 remaining.
Colgate survived an RPI double power play at the end of the third period with a Goalie Interference minor at 3:18, and a five-minute major penalty for Cross Checking that was called off a video review with 2:02 left in the game.
The Raiders had a 32-24 edge in shots on goal, and took 29 of 40 faceoffs. Colgate had 17 blocked shots to 11 for the Engineers. Benson posted 22 saves for the Raiders and Watson stopped 28 Colgate shots.

I thought our guys played a great road game tonight. One of our more complete games of the year. I am very happy with the effort and focus of our guys this weekend. There are no easy games in this league. We will take it and get ready for Brown on Monday.
