Late Night Thriller in Hamilton

MacEachern Nets Late Third Period Goal

HAMILTON – Colgate women's ice hockey returned home Friday night, as they hosted in conference opponent Clarkson, defeating the Golden Knights 2-1, in a late-game thriller.

"Our league is really tight. We are going to be in a lot of these highly contested games. We just want to focus on making progress as a team as the season goes on" said Head Coach Greg Fargo.

Kristýna Kaltounková started the game off for the Raiders, sliding in a garbage goal out front off passes from Kaitlyn O'Donohoe and Tanner Gates. Kaltounková's goal marks her ninth of the season.

After an early Raiders goal was called off, Maggie MacEachern potted the late game thriller with three minutes to go in the game, rocketing the rubber from the top of the faceoff circle. Danielle Serdachny recorded her 14th assist of the season on the goal.

Kayle Osborne was lights out in net, stopping 22 of 23 shots, grabbing her sixth win of the season. Osborne's win slides her into third all-time in career wins with 34.

Neena Brick dominated the faceoff dot, winning 11 of 12 faceoffs for a 91.7 percent success rate.

Kaltounková started early, netting the opening goal just five minutes into play, slotting the puck past the goalkeeper from the goalies blue paint.  O'Donohoe and Gates collected assists on the play.

In a tightly contested second period, shots rang up 11-7 in favor of the Raiders. Colgate came close to potting another one out front but the Golden Knights goalkeeper stood strong.

Colgate found a majority of their scoring chances coming between the two Golden Knights defensive faceoff dots. The second period ended with the Raiders out front by a score of 1-0.

Clarkson answered 30 seconds into the third period, sliding the puck past Osborne. Play continued with both teams tied at one. Midway through the third period, the potential go-ahead for the Raiders goal was waved off.

With three minutes of play remaining, senior MacEachern scored the go-ahead goal, placing the final dagger into the game, as Colgate walked away with the 2-1 win.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Greg Fargo

"I was really pleased with how our team stayed with it tonight. We played a strong game but Clarkson is organized defensively and they make you earn it.

"We got the lead in the first and then had to crawl back after giving one up early in the third. We stuck with it. Even after having that goal called back, our team stayed focused on the next play and ultimately found a way to finish it off."
