HAMILTON — Colgate exploded for eight goals Saturday, dominating Yale in an 8-1 victory at the Class of 1965 Arena.
Colgate had eight players record multi-point games including a trio of three-point performances.
Matt Verboon and
Alex Young each tallied a goal and two assists, while
Ross Mitton logged three assists.
Nic Belpedio and
Alex DiPaolo were two of the five players that recorded two points, with each netting a pair of goals.
Colgate came out firing right from the start as just 26 seconds into the game, Belpedio ripped a shot in the back of the net to give the Raiders the lead. Colgate added one more in the first period, with
Ethan Manderville scoring on a power play off passes from Verboon and
Nick Anderson to double the lead.
In the second, Colgate tacked on four more goals. It began with another quick goal as 33 seconds into the period, DiPaolo lit the lamp to make it a three-goal game. Just over five minutes later,
Alex Young notched a goal of his own to make it 4-0 Raiders.
Levi Glasman then netted one with six and a half minutes remaining before Verboon finished the second period scoring parade with a power play goal at the 17:34 mark.
The Raiders found the back of the net twice in the final period of play. Nine and a half minutes in, DiPaolo notched his second of the night to make it 7-0 Raiders. Belpedio topped off the scoring for Colgate when he also logged his second goal of the contest with 5:17 remaining.
Yale finally got one back with just over two and a half minutes left. Michael Young passed ahead to David Chen, who slipped a shot into the goal.
The Raiders' penalty kill had a strong performance, shutting down the Bulldogs on three power play attempts. Colgate had six power play chances of its own, three of which the Raiders converted on.
Colgate outshot Yale 30 to 20 and held control in the faceoff circle, going 37 for 67.
Carter Gylander stood strong in goal for the Raiders, making 19 saves.
