Raiders Return to Full Strength!

Farrier Produces Second Shutout of the Season in 4-0 Victory

HAMILTON – The Colgate men's hockey program rebounded with a dynamic showing of offense to earn a weekend split behind a 4-0 win over Union. The victory featured four different Raider goal scorers while Andrew Farrier recorded his second shutout of the season between the pipes.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Raiders had a quick start right from the drop of the puck as they searched for retribution from Friday's loss. Minutes into the game Ben Sharf sped down the sheet on a breakaway, but got tangled up and slid into the netminder, prompting Colgate's first penalty kill of the night.

Colgate quickly burned it but a tussle in the corner called for more time in the box for both teams making for 4-on-4 action. After the initial faceoff, Jacob Panetta scored from the point to gain a 1-0 lead for the Raiders. As Union looked to even it up, Andrew Farrier made a big stop at the horn to hold onto Colgate's 1-0 lead heading into the second.

In a period packed with penalties, the Raiders produced a strong power play early in the session but the return on it wouldn't come until after Union returned its skater as Evan Tschumi redirected a puck in the slot for a quick rebound and a 2-0 lead midway through regulation. In other special team action, Colgate's strong kill carried through a penalty so as the Raiders could enter the third with a two-goal advantage.

Colgate didn't let up on its onslaught of offense in the third as it looked to increase its lead. Midway through the period, Paul McAvoy served up a pipe ringer, and although it didn't return, John Snodgrass quickly garnered another goal minutes later. In a continued streak, it only took another 2:32 before Paul Meyer notched his first of the season from the blueline.

Although Union pulled the netminder and opted for an extra skater, neither could hold off a dynamic Colgate offense as it powered on to a 4-0 shutout of the Dutchmen, earning an important two point for the conference standings.

COLGATE SCORING PLAYS
• Period 1 | 08:34 – After winning the draw, Josh McKechney dropped the puck back to Jacob Panetta. In a search for space, Panetta sent it low to McKechney in the corner, before receiving it back at the blue line. The senior then ripped the puck through traffic from the point to gain a 1-0 lead.
• Period 2 | 09:53 – Colton Young sped down the left flank sending the puck north. After recovering it from behind the net, Young broke it free from the boards before Jared Cockrell drove the net at the edge of the crease. Although his attempt was stopped, Evan Tschumi was ready in the slot for the redirect into the net for a 2-0 advantage.
• Period 3 | 09:11 – In an attempt to narrow Colgate's lead, Union opted for the extra skater. Tyler Jeanson was able to poke the puck out of the zone off a defender at the blue line, before skating it out to center ice. Jeanson passed it off to John Snodgrass who beat a Dutchman up the ice and scored on the empty net.
• Period 3 | 11:43 – In a deep battle for the puck, Young dug it out of the corner and sent it to the blueline to an open Paul Meyer. From the point, Meyer served up a wicked one-timer to the glove side for a 4-0 lead.
