Colgate Blanks Union for Second Straight Win

Freshman Scoring Barrage Lifts Colgate to 4-0 Victory

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Looking to build on a Friday afternoon victory at RPI, Colgate wouldn't disappoint. Freshmen scored all four Raider goals to continue their dominant stretch.

In the first period, it was the Raiders' stout penalty kill unit that provided momentum. Colgate found itself down a skater on two occasions, but shut down any Union hopes of a power play goal to open the game.

Darcie Lappan gave Colgate the early advantage with four minutes remaining in the first. Lappan pushed a slap shot past Union goalie Bella McKee after a nice feed from Danielle Serdachny.

In the second period, history would repeat itself for the young Raiders. Sammy Smigliani netted her third goal of the weekend to give Colgate a more comfortable 2-0 lead.

Kaitlyn O'Donohoe followed suit and scored her third of the weekend just seconds after the ensuing faceoff. Liz Auby made six saves in the second to keep the Dutchwomen scoreless.

In the third period, Auby secured the tenth shutout of her career with 11 saves. Allyson Simpson put the finishing touches on a 4-0 victory with a rocket of a slap shot for her sixth goal of the year.

Bottom Line

  • Colgate 4, Union 0

From the Source

Head Coach Greg Fargo on the weekend sweep

  • "It's nice to get a win after playing well. Points are tough to come by in the league and when you play well, it feels good to be rewarded. The team really competed this weekend and walked away with four points; it feels great going back home."

On Colgate's depth on display Saturday afternoon

  • "When everyone's going, the offense can come from anywhere. That was the case again tonight. It was nice to get contributions from various players up and down the lineup."

On Liz Auby's shutout

  • "Liz was really strong. It was a good response from her. She saw the puck exceptionally well and controlled her rebounds well. Our team did a nice job of keeping a lot of those shots on the perimeter. Liz was there on a couple key plays to keep Union scoreless, in particular one save at the end of the second period on a two-on-one to keep our lead at 3-0."
