A day after the Raiders controlled play in the opening stanza against Holy Cross, but could not finish, Sunday was quite the opposite. Just over two minutes into the game, Colgate cashed in.
Rosy Demers and
Kaitlyn O'Donohoe set up a quality scoring chance in front of Ice Wolves goalie Amelia Van Vliet, then
Caroline Ross swooped in from the point to tap home the goal.
The home side continued to carry play and ended the frame with a 15-1 edge in shots on goal, but they made sure to double up their advantage before the break.
Danielle Serdachny set up an odd man rush in the neutral zone on a pass to Demers with under a minute to play. The forward then busted in and found
Tanner Gates in the high slot, who fired a wrist shot top shelf for the second Raider tally.
Colgate continued the trend of early period goals in the second thanks to
Coralie Larose. She notched her second goal of the weekend when she took a feed from
Darcie Lappan off the corner boards and flipped a backhander top shelf.
Noemi Neubauerova also garnered an assist on the play.
The Raiders were not done in the frame, as they continued to control the game territorially. During a long stay in the offensive zone midway through the period,
Kendall Williamson worked a puck to
Allyson Simpson at the point. The freshman worked her way to the top of the right faceoff circle and took a wrist shot that fit just under the bar to bump the Raider lead to four.
Kingston was able to muster six shots on net in the period to bring its two period total to seven, but
Alexa Dobchuk was perfect in the cage for the Raiders.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the concluding frame, but Dobchuk made a pair of saves to finish the game a perfect 9-for-9. The sophomore gave way to junior
Peri Donaldson with 9:41 left in the game. Donaldson made three saves in her first appearance in a collegiate game (regular season or exhibition) since her freshman season.
