Colgate Blanks RIT, 2-0

Greg Fargo Claims Program Best 138th Victory

HAMILTON -  Colgate had no plans of an early Thanksgiving break on Tuesday night. The Raiders hit the ice with a purpose after a quick turnaround from a weekend series against Ohio State.

The first period saw the only scoring of the game. Five minutes in, Tanner Gates converted on a power play to give Colgate an early lead.

In the waning minutes of the opening period, Darcie Lappan netted her fourth of the year to put her team up 2-0. The Raiders wouldn't look back.

Liz Auby tallied six saves in both the second and third periods to ensure the shutout. Tonight marked her ninth career shutout, including her third in her past five starts.

Tuesday evening brought a celebratory occasion when the final horn sounded as Greg Fargo had claimed the top spot on Colgate's all-time wins leader board. The win over RIT marked the 138th of Fargo's time with the Raiders.

From the Source

Head Coach Greg Fargo on tonight's performance

  • "We were on the right side of pucks and made sure we took away time and space. When our team skates the way we do we're going to come up with pucks. It was nice to get a power play goal early on and our special teams were strong. I can't wait to get back at it with our team, we've been taking a lot of ground so far this season."

On all-time wins record

  • "It's a nice moment. Coaches don't win games, it's teams that win games. I've been fortunate to be around great players and assistant coaches. It's all about who you surround yourself with. I've been fortunate throughout my time here to be around such awesome people. This is celebrated today, but we have a lot more that we want to accomplish here."

Looking back on the years at Colgate

  • "As a coach or an athlete, we've always taken the approach that we want to learn, grow, and get better over time. It's not about one thing that's changed or how I've evolved as a coach, it's more about the fact that we've focused on the every day and trying to explore the game and find ways to take steps to make the program better. That to me has been the fun part: coming to work with people I care about and figuring out what we can do to move the needle forward so that our players can enjoy what they are doing. I've been fortunate to be around players who want to move that program needle forward and assistant coaches and staff who have wanted the same thing. That's a big part of why our program has been able to keep climbing over the years."
