PRE-GAME RECEPTION
MINNEAPOLIS – No. 3 Colgate takes on No. 1 Clarkson for the national title Sunday at 2 p.m. Central time/ 3 p.m. Eastern here at Ridder Arena.
The Raiders punched their ticket to the title game by beating No. 2 Wisconsin in dramatic fashion.
Breanne Wilson-Bennett completed her first career hat trick by scoring the game-winner with 3:57 left in the second overtime period. The game lasted 96:03, the second longest in Frozen Four history.
Wilson-Bennett, who finished with a career-high four points, became the ninth player in program history to the reach the 100-point milestone on her game-winning goal. Earlier in the game,
Megan Sullivan became the eighth player to reach the 100-point mark.
Sunday's matchup is the fourth meeting between the two schools this season. It is the first time two ECAC Hockey schools are competing for the championship.
The Raiders won the first meeting of the season on Oct. 27, 4-3, in overtime in Potsdam. Clarkson won the other two meetings, handing the Raiders their lone loss at the Class of 1965 Arena on Jan. 27 and downing the Raiders on March 4 to win the ECAC Hockey Championship.
Pregame Reception and Red Carpet Arrival
Just like Friday for the semifinals, there is a pregame reception for all Colgate fans and alumni at Blarney Pub and Grill in Minneapolis. The reception begins at 11:30 a.m. and runs through the beginning of the game, with puck drop at 2 p.m. Central. Just after the start of the reception there is a Red Carpet Arrival for the Colgate team at Ridder Arena beginning at noon Central. Blarney Pub and Grill is located two blocks down the street from the arena, and fans are encouraged to attend both events.
Scouting Clarkson
The defending national champion Golden Knights enter Sunday's matchup with an overall record 35-4-1 and have won nine consecutive games. Clarkson beat Ohio State 1-0 in overtime to advance to the title game. Patty Kazmaier Award finalist Loren Gabel found the back of the net 16:12 into the added frame to send the Golden Knights to their second straight title game. Gabel finished the season with 75 points (36g, 39a), which is tied for the second-most in the nation. Right behind her is ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Year was Elizabeth Giguere with 70 points (26g, 44a), the fourth-most in the nation. In net, Shea Tiley was named the 2017-18 CCM/AHCA First Team All-American. Tiley has the highest save percentage (.944) in Division I hockey and the second-best goals against average (1.21).
