Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey | | Kevin Noonan

Men's Hockey Falls in Game 2 at Clarkson, 3-0

Point Makes 31 Saves for Second Straight Night, Game 3 Set for Sunday at 7 P.M.

POTSDAM, N.Y. – Goaltender Colton Point (North Bay, Ontario) made 31 saves Saturday night but the Colgate men's ice hockey team fell to the No. 10/8 Clarkson Golden Knights 3-0 at Cheel Arena.

Clarkson evened up the series at a game apiece and forced a Game 3 Sunday night.

The Raiders and Golden Knights were scoreless through the first half of the first period before Clarkson took a 1-0 lead on Haralds Egle's fifth of the season. Egle gathered a pass and circled around the net and into the right side of the slot with the puck. He hesitated on a shot attempt to lure a Colgate defender before firing a shot through a screen in front of the net past Point.

Neither team managed to score a goal in the second period as Clarkson held on to its 1-0 lead. One of Colgate's best chances of the game came with 11:12 to go in the period and three seconds left on the power play. Clarkson goaltender Jake Kielly made a sprawling save to his right on Jared Cockrell's (Readfield, Maine) backdoor wrist shot that would have tied the game.

The Golden Knights came out firing in the third period as they scored a pair of goals in the first 57 seconds to extend their lead to 3-0. Devin Brosseau opened the period with a one-timer 24 seconds in off a pass from Sheldon Rempal behind the goal. Just 33 seconds later, Marly Quince scored his second of the series off a pass from Juho Jokiharju.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Don Vaughan
"Our second period was good again tonight. They obviously came very hard and we didn't have much of an answer for their top line tonight, they were exceptional. I'd like to have the start of the third period back, obviously. If we had kept it close, it would have given us more energy but after they scored those two quick ones we couldn't muster much after that."

"Tomorrow's not going to be much different than these first two games. They played really well tonight. The team we played tonight was the one we played early in the season back at our place in November. Tonight they brought their A-game. You have to tip your hat to Casey, his staff and his team, they played really well."

"We had a pretty good attitude and mood in the locker room after the second period. We were only down one and our power play could have got us back in it. We had great puck possession on our power play but we just couldn't get pucks through and that's how we score our goals."

"We've got to go in and just play. It's game three and it won't be easy. We put ourselves in this position and we have to go out and answer. That's what we did last week. I guess the good news is we did it once and we can do it again."
