PROVIDENCE, R.I.—After jumping out to a 3-1 lead on Friday night at Meehan Auditorium, Colgate was knocked off by an upstart Brown team.
Colgate came out firing in the opening moments and enjoyed a 5-0 advantage in shots through five minutes of play, which would turn into scoring.
Shae Labbe opened the scoring just under six minutes into the game when she collected a feed from
Olivia Zafuto in the neutral zone. From there, she entered the offensive zone and fired a wrist shot over the shoulder of Calla Isaac. With the tally, Labbe earned her 100th career point as a Raider, which makes her the 10th player in program history to do so.
The Bears had a quick response to Labbe's ice breaker, as they evened the score at 1-1 just a few minutes later.
The teams battled until late in the opening period before
Malia Schneider gave the Raiders the lead back. She entered the zone from the left point and forced her way to the front of the net, before she jammed home her third goal of the season.
Jessie Eldridge earned the lone assist on the play.
Schneider's goal proved to have a carry-over effect going into the second period, as the Raiders wasted no time extending their lead. Right off the opening faceoff,
Olivia Zafuto controlled and handed it off to
Delani MacKay. She carried in the offensive zone and then gave it right back to Zafuto, who fired home her second on the year on a one-timer.
Brown was able to respond again, as they scored just under seven minutes later to draw their deficit back to one. Later on in the period, the Bears evened the score, as Sena Hanson scored with just over a minute to play to setup a thrilling third period.
Hanson continued on with her hot hand in the third period, as her tally midway through the frame turned into the game-winner.
