HAMILTON—Just about everyone got involved on Friday evening at Class of 1965 Arena for the Colgate Women's Hockey team in a 6-0 victory over visiting Dartmouth.
Nine different players had points and the defense was staunch to help Colgate open ECAC play in dominant fashion.
Colgate had a trio of power play opportunities in the opening stanza and the Raiders made sure to convert. On the third chance late in the frame,
Olivia Zafuto held the puck in at the left point, then fed it across the ice to center point with
Shae Labbe. The senior blasted one just wide, but
Delani MacKay was stationed just to the left of the Big Green goal and potted home the ricochet off the back wall. It was her second on the campaign.
The Raiders had to kill off 1:15 of a Big Green power play to open the second period, but then the home side took off. Colgate outshot Dartmouth 19-6 in the frame and a fresh face was very involved.
Rosalie Demers had plenty of chances to notch her first career point in the six games leading up to Friday night, but all the chips fell into place against Dartmouth. She earned her first collegiate point when
Malia Schneider deftly deflected in a
Coralie Larose wrist shot on the power play to double up the Raider lead. It was Schneider's second on the campaign.
Just a few minutes later, Demers continued her evening to remember when she broke in all alone on Dartmouth netminder Christine Honor and scored five hole to extend the Colgate lead.
The score stayed at 3-0 after the frame, but it didn't take long for Colgate to continue the onslaught once the third period commenced.
On a scramble in front of the Big Green goal, Larose found the loose biscuit and scored on the backhand to bring the lead to four.
Tanner Gates had an assist on the play and Demers earned an assist as well to give her three points on the night.
Colgate poured it on throughout the rest of the third period, which included a 12-2 advantage in shots to make it a 40-14 Raider lead in the game.
Olivia Zafuto scored her first on the season midway through the frame, when her wrist shot eluded traffic and beat Honor.
Then,
Jessie Eldridge closed the scoring with just over five minutes to go when she finished a nifty passing play between her, Schneider and Nemo Neubaurova. It was the senior's fourth on the campaign, which ties her with Larose and classmate
Shae Labbe for the team lead in the category.
On the other end, Raider goalie
Liz Auby continued her stellar play in the cage. The junior claimed her sixth career shutout when she was perfect on all 14 Big Green shots.
Bottom Line
- #9 Colgate 6, Dartmouth 0

From the Source
Rosalie Demers
"It was a great team win," said Demers. "Everyone was playing well and it started with Auby. Everyone put in a max effort. We were all over them, it was a great night for us."
"After the first period, we knew we needed to forecheck them," said Demers. "We really started to forecheck hard and it was good for us."
On her first career goal:
"It was a great feeling, but it was a greater feeling because we won," said Demers. "Getting my first goal is fine, but getting a big team win is better."
Greg Fargo
"Tonight was just a really good team win," said Fargo. "From the goaltender (Auby) out, we were really good. It was the best I've seen certain individuals play and for the group overall, we were connected and we're starting to look a little more like we want to every day."
On Demers:
"She had her best game," said Fargo. "It was nice to see her get rewarded and get on the scoresheet a couple times. Her line (with Delani and
Eleri MacKay) was tremendous, especially in the first period. We hadn't played in two weeks, so there was a feeling out process and her line really stepped up."
"
Coralie Larose was really good tonight," said Fargo. "She continues to be someone that has proven that she's ready to take on more of a role this year."
