Sullivan's Overtime Game-Winner Lifts Women's Hockey Past Quinnipiac, 2-1

Raiders Improve to 3-0-1 in Overtime in Second Half Opening Win

HAMDEN, Conn. – Megan Sullivan (Toronto, Ontario) scored the game-winning overtime goal just 20 seconds into the extra period Friday night as the No. 4/4 Colgate women's ice hockey team knocked off the Quinnipiac Bobcats, 2-1, at the Frank Perrotti, Jr. Arena.

Sullivan's goal was her second overtime game-winning goal of the season and eighth overall goal in the winning effort while first-year Malia Schneider (Millarville, Alberta) tied for the team lead with her 10th goal of the season.

Goaltender Julia Vandyk (Cambridge, Ontario) also came up big for the Raiders as she made 21 saves in the win, including eight saves in the final period.

After Raquel Pennoyer put the Bobcats on top late in the first period, the Raiders battled and peppered goaltender Abbie Ives with 25 shots over the first two periods.

Schneider finally broke through to tie the game 1-1 with 10:36 to go in the third period. After getting a pass from Annika Zalewski (New Hartford, New York), Schneider split two Quinnipiac defenders and beat a third before rifling the puck past Ives.

The Raiders had several more good looks late in the third period before Sullivan's game-winner early in overtime. Sullivan won a battle for a loose puck on the left boards and managed to skate around Quinnipiac defender Alicia Barry. Sullivan lost control of the puck but it bounced off defender Kati Tabin's skate past Ives to win the game 20 seconds into overtime.
