HAMILTON – For a second straight night, goaltender
Colton Point (North Bay, Ontario) played phenomenally as he made 31 saves but the No. 19 Colgate men's ice hockey team couldn't complete a comeback in a 2-0 loss to the No. 4/4 Cornell Big Red.
A Class of 1965 Arena record 2,422 people attended Saturday night's game, besting the two previous sellout records by 200 fans.
Colgate's offense came alive in the third period as they outshot Cornell 11-7 but couldn't get one past Big Red goaltender Matthew Galajda.
Point was stellar through the first two periods, making 25 saves and keeping the Raiders in the 1-0 game.
Mike Panowyk (Whitby, Ontario) had one of Colgate's best offensive chances of the game with a breakaway coming just over six minutes into the second period. He skated one-on-one with Galajda who made a pad save sliding to his right to stop Panowyk's shot.
Cam Donaldson put the Big Red on the board with 3:26 to go in the second period. After picking the pocket of a Colgate defenseman, Donaldson sprinted towards the goal before sneaking one just between Point's blocker and the post.
Kyle Betts added a second goal for the Big Red with 9:19 to go in the second period on a wraparound that just snuck under Point.

Head coach
Don Vaughan
"We competed hard. Cornell's a really good team, they're not No. 4 in the country by accident. Tonight, we hurt ourselves a little bit more than last night. We turned the puck over way too much tonight and some of that is a result of the pressure they put on you but there were times tonight where we were unloading the puck unnecessarily. As a result, you're chasing it a bit and not making plays. We need to make plays, it's obvious, we haven't scored in two games so we've got to find a way to generate some offense."
"We settled down in the third, it was another great third period. We had some great opportunities and good looks but you don't get many second and third chances against that team."
"Colton was solid, he was tested more last night than tonight. They didn't have a ton of Grade A scoring chances, he had a couple big saves including the one on the breakaway as did their guy. It was a pretty even battle back-and-forth with the goaltenders tonight. Colton has given us a chance to win every night and that's what good goalies do."
